1) World Tuna Day observed globally on 2 May
•World Tuna Day is observed globally on 2nd May every year. This day is established by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness about the importance of tuna fish. It is observed for the first time in 2017. According to the UN, an outsized number of nations worldwide depend upon tuna for both food security and nutrition. At the same time, more than 96 countries have tuna fisheries, and their capacity is constantly growing.

2) GoI raises MSP for Minor Forest Produce ranging from 16% to 66%
•The Government of India has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Minor Forest Produce (MFP) of 49 items. The increase in MSP across various items of minor forest produce varies from 16% to 66%.

•The Pricing Cell set up under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India revises the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Minor Forest Produce (MFP) once in every 3 years. The latest revision is expected to positively affect the livelihoods of tribal gatherers as it will provide a much needed momentum to procurement of Minor Tribal Produce in atleast 20 States.

3) CSIR-Central Road Research Institute develops “Kisan Sabha App”
•CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) has developed “Kisan Sabha App”. This app was remotely launched amid nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. This application has been rolled out to connect farmers to supply chain and freight transportation management system. The recently launched portal will be a single stop for every entity related to agriculture such as farmer who needs good price for the crops, mandi dealer who needs to connect to more farmers, and truckers who repeatedly go empty from the mandis.

4) Union Culture Minister launches e-book “Prof. B.B. Lal: India Rediscovered”



•Union Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel launched an e-book titled “Prof. B.B. Lal: India Rediscovered”. E-book was launched on the occasion of centenary year of great archaeologist Professor B. B. Lal.

•E-book titled “Prof. B.B. Lal: India Rediscovered” has been prepared by the Ministry of culture along with Prof B B Lal Centenary Celebration Committee. This book is a centenary special edition and a tribute from Ministry of culture for his enormous contribution to the discipline of archaeology.

5) Arvind Kumar Sharma takes charge as Secretary to MSME Ministry
•Arvind Kumar Sharma has taken over the charge as Secretary to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Before assuming charge as Secretary to MSME Ministry, he was serving as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

•Arvind Kumar Sharma is a 1988 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre and has worked in the Government of Gujarat at various positions.

6) Giridhar Aramane takes charge as Secretary to MoRTH
•Giridhar Aramane has taken over the charge as Secretary to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has replaced Sanjeev Ranjan who has been appointed as secretary in the Ministry of Shipping.

•Giridhar Aramane is a 1988 batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. Before assuming charge as Secretary to MoRTH, he was serving as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. He has also served as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas from 2012-14. He has also worked in the Government of Andhra Pradesh at different positions.

7) Shobhana Narasimhan honoured by American Academy of Arts and Sciences
•Shobhana Narasimhan has been elected as an International Honorary Member to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is a professor from the Theoretical Sciences Unit (TSU) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). She has been honoured for her distinguished work in the field of sciences. She has done remarkable work on the rational design of nanomaterials, determining the affect of lowering of dimensionality and reduction of size on the properties of material.

•The scholars and leaders who have distinguished themselves in the sciences, arts, humanities and public life are honoured by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela and Charles Darwin are some of the previous International Honorary Members being honoured by the society.
