NATIONAL:


1. T.R. Zeliang steps down as Nagaland chief minister

  • Ending more than two weeks of standoff with Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC), Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang resigned from his post.  
  • T. R. Zeliang is an Indian politician who has been Chief Minister of Nagaland, a state in northeast India, since 2014.
  • Zeliang previously served as a Member of Parliament, representing Nagaland in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament.
2. 31st state hood day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram: 20 February


  • On 20 February 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted people of two states Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on their 31st state hood day. Conveying his best wishes and prayed for the two states progress immensely in the years to come. Union Minister Rajnath Singh greeted the states. Rajnath is expected to attend the ‘Arunachal Pradesh statehood day’ function in Itanagar.

3. 31st state hood day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram: 20 February


•AirAsia became the first foreign airline to begin its operations from Srinagar international airport in Jammu and Kashmir. 

•Srinagar has The Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport since last five years, but no  Air Asiaforeign airlines had yet operated services from there.The flight operation by AirAsia is expected to give a boost to tourism in the valley.



INTERNATIONAL:

4. Iran launches 'advanced' rockets during military exercises

•Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard has launched several sophisticated rockets during military exercises, Iranian media reported on Monday.

•The semi-official Tasnim news agency , considered to be close to the Revolutionary Guard, said the launch of the "smart and advanced" rockets came during an annual three-day manoeuvr which began on Monday in Iran's central desert.

•Later on Monday, state TV showed footage of several rockets launching from the back of trucks in the desert.

•Gen. Mohammad Pakpour, head of the Revolutionary Guards' ground forces told the channel that rockets with ranges of more than 100 kilometres (62 miles) as well as the Fajr-3, Fajr-4 and Fajr-5 rockets, all believed to have under 100-kilometre range, were all successfully tested in the exercise.

•Pakpour said the tests send a message to any of Iran's potential adversaries: "We are ready to give a crushing respond to any threat."
•Earlier in February, the United States said has put Iran "on notice" after the country test fired a medium-range ballistic missile.

5. Oriental Bank launches mobile wallet ‘Batuaa’

  • On the occasion of its 75th Foundation Day, Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) has come up with several digital offerings including launch of mobile wallet ‘Oriental Batuaa’.
  • Besides introducing a new version of mobile banking, OBC has also launched two new cards.
  • Oriental Premium card is a RuPay based Platinum international debit card.

SPORTS:

6. Bangalore to host India’s next Davis Cup

  • India will host Uzbekistan on the hard courts of Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association in Bangalore when the two sides clash in an Asia Oceania Zone group I Davis Cup tie in April.
  • India beat New Zealand, while Uzbekistan beat Korea.
  • The winner of the tie will advance to the World Group Play-offs, to be held in September.
