SUPER 6 CURRENT AFFAIRS- 06th APRIL 2017


1) PM to lay foundation stone of a multi-modal terminal on River Ganga in Jharkhand
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of a multi-modal terminal on River Ganga at Sahebganj in Jharkhand.

•The state of the art terminal, to be constructed at an estimated cost of 280 crore rupees, is an important component of the development of the National Waterway-1 from Varanasi to Haldia. 

•National Waterway-1 is being developed under the Jal Marg Vikas Project of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, with the technical and financial assistance of World Bank at an estimated cost of around 5,400 crore rupees. The terminal will have a cargo handling capacity of 2.24 Million Tonnes Per Annum. 

2) Haryana government to provide Rs 21,000 to families for third girl child
•Haryana government has decided to provide a one-time grant of Rs 21,000 to all those families whose third girl child was born after August 24, 2015, under the 'Aapki Beti, Hamari Beti' scheme.

•Under the scheme, the eligible families will receive the amount irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, income and number of sons.

•Earlier under the scheme, the first girl child born in the families belonging to Scheduled Castes and all Below Poverty Line (BPL), and second, twin or multiple girls born on or after January 22, 2015 in any family were eligible for the grant.

3) International Day of Sport for Development and Peace: 06th April
•6 April was declared as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) by the UN General Assembly.

•In 2013, the Sixty-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly decided to proclaim 6 April as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

•On the occasion of the 2017 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) launches the digital campaign #WePlayTogether to encourage organizations and individuals.

4) India’s ranks 7th in world’s largest tourism economy in terms of GDP
•India's travel and tourism sector ranks 7th in the world in terms of its total contribution to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to a new report of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), 2016.

•According to data, the travel and tourism sector generated Rs 14.1 trillion (USD208.9 billion) in 2016, which is world's 7th largest in terms of absolute size the sum is equivalent to 9.6% of India's GDP. The USA topped the list followed by China and Germany at the second and third position, respectively.

5) Aditya Birla Group gets RBI licence to start payments bank
•Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Ltd becomes the seventh entity to receive a final licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to set up a payments bank.

•Except Vodafone M-Pesa Ltd, all payment bank licence holders have received the final approval. Among payment bank licence holders, two entities namely Airtel Payments Bank and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) have started operations so far. 

•While Airtel is offering 7.25% interest on its savings account, IPPB is offering three types of accounts where interest rates will vary from 4.5-5.5%.


6) Cabinet approvals on 5th April 2017
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the following agreements on 5th April.

2. agreement on Audio Visual Co-Production between India and Bangladesh

4. MoU on passenger cruise services on the coastal and protocol routes between India and Bangladesh 
5. Signing of MoU between India and Bangladesh in the field of judicial sector cooperation 
6. MoU between India and France on Technical Cooperation in Civil Aviation 
7. MoU between India and Bangladesh for fairway development of Ashuganj-Zakiganj stretch of Kushiyara river and Sirajganj-Daikhawa stretch of Jamuna river in the Indo-Bangladesh protocol route 
8. Closure of Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana
9. Cabinet apprised of the MoU with Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane S.P.A. of Italy on Technical Cooperation in the Rail Sector
10. Collaboration Agreement to support the Belmont Forum Secretariat 
11. Air Services Agreement between India and Georgia.
