1) HM Rajnath Singh inaugurates 2nd meeting of NPDRR in New Delhi
•The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the second meeting of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) in New Delhi. The meeting will be attended by over 1000 distinguished guests including Union Ministers, State Ministers, Parliamentarians, Heads of Local Self-Government, Heads of specialized disaster management agencies and civil society organizations.

•The Second meeting of NPDRR will be held over two days, i.e. 15-16 May 2017 on the theme 'Disaster Risk Reduction for Sustainable Development: Making India resilient by 2030'. The NPDRR is a multi-stakeholders National Platform headed by the Union Home Minister and it promotes participatory decision making in disaster management and strengthens federal policy of our country.

2) Telangana hosted first Videsh Sampark
•Telangana hosted the first outreach program of the Ministry of External Affairs ‘Videsh Sampark’ to engage the State governments in creating awareness about various programmes of the Ministry.

•It was inaugurated by the Minister of State for External Affairs, Gen. V.K. Singh. The conference will create awareness on the schemes regard to consular and passport services, engagement with overseas Indians, welfare and protection of overseas Indians. 

•Also, Telangana has become the first state in the country where the pilot ‘e-Sanad’ project for online attestation of documents, was rolled out.

3) ISKCON's Govardhan Eco Village wins Smart Village Award
•Govardhan Eco Village, set up by the ISKCON in adjoining Thane district, has won a Smart Village award for being a sustainable project in rural Maharashtra.

•The village at Wada taluka is located 108km north of Mumbai at the foothills of the Sahyadri mountains. The award, "Smart Village," has been instituted by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).

4) Palestine President arrives on 4-day visit to India
•President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas arrived in India on a four-day State visit. During his stay in New Delhi, President Abbas will visit C-DAC in Noida to forge cooperation between Palestine - India Techno Park being built by India in Palestine and Indian IT industry.

•The visit of President Mahmoud Abbas will provide an opportunity for reviewing the entire gamut of bilateral relations, regional and international issues. MoUs on cooperation in various sectors are also expected to be signed during the visit. This is his third State visit to India.

5) International Day of Families: 15 May
•The International Day of Families is observed on the 15th of May every year. The theme of 2017 is “Families, education and well-being”.

•This year’s observance focuses on the role of families and family-oriented policies in promoting education and overall well-being of their members. In particular, the Day is to raise awareness of the role of families in promoting early childhood education and lifelong learning opportunities for children and youth.

6) India win 1 gold, 5 silver & 4 bronze in Asian Wrestling Championship
•India finished their Asian Wrestling Championship campaign on a resounding note with Sumit winning a silver medal in the 125 kg category on the concluding day of the continental event held in New Delhi.

•In the gold medal round, Sumit lost to Yadollah Mohammadkazem Mohebi of Iran to settle for the second position. The Indian wrestlers overall bagged 10 medals comprising a gold, five silver, and four bronze.

•Bajrang Punia defeated Lee Seung-chul of Korea to win the gold medal in the men’s 65 kg freestyle category at the Asian Wrestling Championship.
