1) Radio broadcasting in country completes 90 years today

•Radio broadcast completes 90 years in country today and first ever radio broadcast in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station on July 23, 1927 under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company.

•On 8th of June, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio. All India Radio (AIR) has been serving to inform, educate and entertain the masses since it’s inception, truly living up to its motto – Bahujan Hitaya Bahujan Sukhaya.

•All India Radio, now under Prasar Bharati, has the distinction of being one of the major broadcasting organizations in the world. The News Services Division of All India Radio disseminates news and comments to listeners in India and abroad.

•AIR’s home service comprises 420 stations today located across the country, reaching nearly 92 per cent of the ountry’s area and 99.19 per cent of the total population. AIR originates programming in 23 languages and 146 dialects.

2) Kiren Rijiju inaugurates RIWATCH Museum in Arunachal Pradesh
•Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has inaugurated the Research Institution of World Ancient, Traditional, Culture & Heritage (RIWATCH) Museum at Roing in Arunachal Pradesh. 

•Later, on the sideline of his visit to Roing, Rijiju also inaugurated the 235-meter long Chimari Bridge, which would serve as a life line between the National Highway 52 of Roing-Tezu. 

3) PM Modi to open former President Abdul Kalam's memorial in Rameshwaram on Thursday
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the national memorial for former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at Peikarumbu near Rameswaram on Thursday. 

•All arrangements are being done at the venue for the function on the second death anniversary of Dr Kalam. Prime Minister Modi may also flag off new train service from Rameswaram to Ayodhya according to railway sources. 

•The national memorial for former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam will be a standing testimony for the love and respect towards people’s President. The foundation stone of Dr Kalam National memorial was laid at Rameswaram last year on his first death anniversary. 

4) Raveesh Kumar to be next ministry of external affairs spokesperson
•Raveesh Kumar, a 1995-batch IFS officer who is currently posted in Frankfurt, Germany as Consul General of India, is understood to be the next spokesperson of the ministry of external affairs.

•Kumar will replace Gopal Baglay, who was appointed the joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. The IFS officer started his career at the Indian Mission in Jakarta. It was followed by a stint in Thimphu and London.

5) India likely to clock 7.5% growth this fiscal: Arvind Panagariya
•NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya has said that India is likely to clock a 7 point 5 per cent economic growth in the current fiscal. He said in New York that towards the last quarter of the current fiscal, growth rate will begin to touch eight per cent but the average for the year will be about 7.5 per cent. 

•Mr Panagariya, however, acknowledged that job creation in the country, especially at the lower, semi-skilled level, truly is the biggest challenge, probably bigger than growing at eight per cent. 

•He said it is unfortunate that India's better performing sectors such as automobile, auto parts, engineering goods, petroleum refinery, pharmaceuticals and IT enabled services, are not very employment-intensive.

6) India bag Silver & Bronze in High Jump at World Para athletics Championships in London
•India bagged two medals in the high jump at the World Para Athletics Championships in London last night. While Sharad Kumar won a silver medal, Varun Bhati bagged bronze medal in the T42 event.

•Sharad recorded his career-best performance with a jump of 1.84 metre, just 0.02 metre short of USA's Sam Gwewe who took gold with a championship record. Varun Bhati's final successful jump was 1.77 metre. 

•With that, India have increased their medal tally to five. Earlier, Sundar Singh Gurjar opened India's account at the World Para Athletics Championships by clinching gold in the men's javelin throw event.
