1) International Literacy Day: 8th September
•The 51st International Literacy Day is being celebrated on 8th September at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The theme announced by UNESCO is `Literacy in a digital world’.

•On this day, in the year 1965, the World Congress of Ministers of Education met in Tehran for the first time to discuss the program of education at the international level.  The UNESCO in its 14th Session in November 1966, declared 8th September as the International Literacy Day.

2) Viveck Goenka Elected New PTI Chairman
•Viveck Goenka, Chairman and Managing Director of the Express Group was elected Chairman of Press Trust of India, the country’s largest news agency.

•Mr. Goenka succeeds Riyad Mathew, who is Senior Assistant Editor and a member of the Manorama management.  N. Ravi, former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu has been elected as the Vice Chairman of PTI. Mr. Ravi succeeds Mr. Goenka as Vice Chairman.

3) India and Sri Lanka Begin Joint Naval Exercise SLINEX 2017
•Indian Navy and Sri Lankan Navy has begun the 2017 Sri Lanka-India Exercise (SLINEX) at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The exercise will conclude on till 14 September 2017. SLINEX 17 aims at reinforcing strong neighbourly ties between both countries underscored by extensive maritime interaction and improved understanding.

•The exercise will commence with a Harbour Phase, during which, the participants will engage in professional, cultural and social interactions.

4) Andhra Pradesh Signs MoU to Build India's First Hyperloop
•The Andhra Pradesh government has signed an MoU with the US-based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT)to build India's first Hyperloop system. The planned project is aimed at connecting cities Amaravati and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, supposedly covering the distance of over 35 km in just five minutes.

•The AP Economic Development Board (AP-EDB) and HTT signed the MoU in Amaravati. Under the MoU, a six-month feasibility study would be conducted from October.

5) Amazon's Largest Fulfilment Center in Hyderabad
•Amazon opened its largest fulfilment centre in India on the outskirts of Hyderabad, near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad.

•The 400,000 sq feet centre with close of 2.1 million cubic feet of storage space is the 5th such centre in Telangana. With this, the US major has ramped up its storage capacity to 3.2 million cubic feet in the State alone.

6) ICICI Lombard Gets SEBI Nod for IPO
•ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company has got capital markets regulator SEBI's go-ahead for its estimated Rs 6,000 crore initial public offer (IPO).

•ICICI Lombard is a joint venture between ICICI Bank and Canada-based Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd.
