1) World Refugee Day: 20 June
•On World Refugee Day is held every year on 20th June to commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees. The theme for World Refugee Day 2018 is ‘Now More Than Ever, We Need to Stand with Refugees’.

•This year, World Refugee Day also marks a key moment for the public to show support for families forced to flee. 

2) 5th National Standards Conclave Held In New Delhi
•The 5th National Standards Conclave- Implementing the Indian National Strategy for Standardization was held in New Delhi. It was organized by Department of Commerce and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

•Two reports were also released by Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Indian National Strategy for Standardization (INSS) and CII-ASL Study on TBT/SPS Notifications. INSS is the result of the combined efforts of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Consumer Affairs and industry stakeholders.

3) HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar Launched National Digital Library Of India
•Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the National Digital Library of India (NDLI). The library will become a single window platform for all educational needs.

•Users can register for free on the National Digital Library from Google Play store. The library can be accessed atndl.iitkgp.ac.in. The library is an integrated platform for schools, colleges, universities, teachers, and students. Over 35 lakh e-books in more than 200 languages are available in the library.

4) Punjab Government Launched Mobile App- 'I-Hariyali'
•The Punjab Government has launched a mobile application named ‘i-Hariyali’ aimed at increasing the state's green cover. The mobile application would enable the users to order free plant saplings.

•The 'i-Hariyali' app, under ‘Mission Tandarust Punjab’ can be downloaded from the app store for free. The users can book a sapling of their choice, a maximum of 25 per person, from a nearby government nursery.

5) Inter-Governmental Ministerial Meeting On Anti-Doping Held In Colombo
•The 15th annual Asia and Oceania Region Inter-Governmental Ministerial meeting on anti-doping was held in Colombo with representatives from 29 countries including India. The 15th such annual gathering is also being attended by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to discuss important anti-doping issues that will help in the fight for clean sport.

•The two-day meeting will discuss how to make the most of government engagement, ensure compliance with the world anti-doping code, support capacity building and a range of other topics.

6) World's Most Powerful Supercomputer 'Summit' Unveiled By US
•US scientists have unveiled the world's most powerful and smartest scientific supercomputer named 'Summit' that can complete over 200,000 trillion calculations per second - providing unprecedented computing power for research in energy, advanced materials and artificial intelligence (AI).

•The US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)supercomputer called Summit will be eight times more powerful than its previous top-ranked system, Titan.

7) US Withdraws From UN Human Rights Council
•Nikki Haley, the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations announced the withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), accusing the council of bias against US ally Israel. Ms Haley also accused the council of maintaining a “disproportionate focus and unending hostility towards Israel" that shows it is "motivated by political bias, not by human rights".

•The US withdrawal from the council marks the first time that a member has voluntarily left the UNHRC. A sitting member of the Council has never dropped out in its 12-year history, though Libya was thrown out after a vote from the General Assembly in 2011.

8) RBI Alters ‘Relative’ Definition To Check Outward Remittances
•Concerned over funds sent abroad under the ‘maintenance of close relative’ category of the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has narrowed the definition of relatives to check the flow of funds. Hence, funds under the ‘maintenance of close relative’ category can be sent only to immediate relatives such as parents, spouses, children and their spouses.

•This has brought about by defining ‘relatives’ under the Companies Act, 2013 instead of the same act of 1956. Outward remittances under maintenance of close relatives shot up to almost $3 billion in 2017-18 from a mere $174 million in 2013-14. In fact, funds sent under this category have more than doubled since 2015-16.

9) Anukreethy Vas Crowned Femina Miss India 2018
•Anukreethy Vas, a 19-year-old Tamil Nadu college student, has been crowned Femina Miss India 2018 in a grand ceremony in Mumbai hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Ayushmann Kurrana. 

•Anukreethy Vas had beaten 30 contestants to bag the top honour in front of a judges panel that included Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, who awarded Anukreethy Vas her crown. Meenakshi Chaudhary from Haryana was the first runner-up while Shreya Rao Kamavarapu from Andhra Pradesh secured the second runner-up position.

1) Jammu & Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti Resigns
•Jammu & Kashmir's Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation to the Governor after BJP announced to pull out of an alliance with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). 

•The reason for the pullout was failure to control the situation in the state and meet its promises. BJP's General Secretary Ram Madhav also called for Governor's rule in Jammu & Kashmir.

2) 3-Day National Yoga Olympiad 2018 Begins In New Delhi
•A 3-day National Yoga Olympiad was inaugurated at the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in CIET in New Delhi by Mr. Eric Falt, Director and UNESCO Representative of the New Delhi Cluster Office for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

•This is the third consecutive year of National Yoga Olympiad of NCERT and this year about 500 students from 26 States and 4 RIEs are participating in the Olympiad. Two books – Joy of Theatre and Sangeet training packages were released on the occasion.

3) Dhanush Artillery Gun Clears Final Trials
•The indigenously upgraded artillery gun Dhanush has successfully completed final user trials and is ready for induction into the Army. Dhanush is an upgraded version of the Swedish Bofors gun procured by India in the mid-1980s.

•This was the third and final phase of user exploitation firings in which six Dhanush guns were fired in battery formation at the Pokhran field firing range. The first phase of trials were conducted between July and September 2016 at the Pokhran and Babina ranges and the second phase was conducted between October and December 2016 at the Siachen base camp with three guns.

4) RBI Eases Norms For FPIs To Invest In Debt
•The Reserve Bank of India has eased investment norms for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in debt, especially into individual large corporates, a move that can help attract more overseas flows and thereby help arrest the recent fall in the rupee.

•FPIs are allowed to invest in various debt market instruments such as government bonds, treasury bills, state development loans and corporate bonds, but with certain limits and restrictions. The RBI increased the FPIs cap on investment in government security to 30% of the outstanding stock of that security, from 20% earlier. FPIs were allowed to invest in government bonds with a minimum residual maturity of three years.

5) IRDAI Sets Up Panel To Review Norms For Marketing Firms
•IRDAI has formed a panel to review the regulations pertaining to insurance marketing firms. The committee is headed by Suresh Mathur, Executive Director (insurance marketing firms), IRDAI, with nine more members.

•The new distribution channel of insurance marketing firms was introduced in 2015 by IRDAI, with the objective of increasing insurance penetration in the country through an area-wise registration approach. The channel has now been in operation for three years. The committee will come up with recommendations before July 31, 2018, according to an order issued by IRDAI.

6) Union Government Collaborates With Google For Flood Forecasting
•The Central Water Commission (CWC), India’s apex technical organisation in the field of Water Resources has signed a Collaboration Agreement with Google for flood forecasting. According to the Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Nitin Gadkari, the collaboration with Google will help in effective flood management in India. 

•Using its high-resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Google would help to generate flood inundation maps with the forecast inputs of CWC. The collaboration agreement between the Water Resource Ministry and Google includes projects related to the improvement of flood prediction systems, high priority research project to improve flood visualisation and online cultural project on the country’s rivers.

1) 11th Common Review Mission Report Released
•Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare released the 11th Common Review Mission (CRM) report of the National Health Mission.

•As per the Report, India has registered a record 22% reduction in MMR since 2013,which is the highest percentage decline so far when compared to all the previous reductions in MMR as per the earlier rounds of SRS. Maternal Mortality Ratio in India has declined from 167 in 2011-2013 to 130 in 2014-2016.

2) 4th Governing Council Meeting Of NITI Aayog Held In Delhi
•The fourth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog was held under the chairmanship of the PM Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. It was attended by 23 Chief Ministers and the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, apart from Union Ministers, who are ex-officio members and special invitees.

•The PM highlighted the importance of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog as a platform to inspire cooperative federalism, stressing the need for effective centre-state cooperation to advance development outcomes and achieve double-digit growth for India. States were called up to fix growth targets for their economies as the world looks towards India soon becoming a USD 5 trillion economy. 

3) I&B Minister Inaugurates EU Film Festival In New Delhi
•Information and Broadcasting Minister Col Rajyavardhan Rathore inaugurated the European Union Film Festival at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. The festival will improve cultural ties between India and European countries.

•24 latest European movies from 23 European countries will be screened. The festival is organized by Directorate of Film Festivals under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, partnering with the delegation of the European Union and embassies of EU Member States. 

4) Ivan Duque Wins Election To Become Colombia's President
•Colombia has chosen Ivan Duque to be its next president after a long and divisive campaign that often centred on a controversial peace process with leftist rebels the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

•Duque, who will turn 42 just before taking office will be Colombia's youngest ever President.

5) Roger Federer Wins 98th ATP Title In Stuttgart, Regained No. 1 Title
•Roger Federer claimed his 98th ATP title and re-established his unrivalled superiority on grass with a victory over Milos Raonic in the Stuttgart Cup final. Top-seeded Swiss beat his Canadian opponent for the 11th time in 14 meetings while winning a first Stuttgart title.

•The 36-year-old regained the world number one ranking. Federer made a return to the top ATP ranking for the sixth time. Tim Putz and Phillip Petzschner (Germany) won the Men's Doubles title after defeating M. Matkowski (Poland) and R. Lindstedt (Sweden).

6) Brooks Koepka Wins 2nd US Open Golf Title 2018
•American golfer Brooks Koepka has made history and finished strong as he became the first player in 29 years to win back-to-back US Open titles at Shinnecock Hills in New York. The 28-year-old Florida native emerged victorious by one shot over England's Tommy Fleetwood.

•The World number one Dustin Johnson finished third at plus-three on account of a 70. With this, Koepka becomes the first player since Curtis Strange in 1988-89 to win back-to-back U.S. Open events.
