1) World Biofuel Day: 10 August
•The World Biofuel Day is observed every year on August 10 to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels. The World Biofuel Day is being observed by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

•On the occasion, PM of India, Narendra Modi unveiled a Booklet on “National Policy on Biofuels 2018”, and launched “Pro-Active and Responsive facilitation by Interactive and Virtuous Environmental Single window Hub”[PARIVESH].

•The Government has approved the National Policy on Biofuels-2018 in June 2018. The policy has the objective of reaching 20% ethanol blending and 5% biodiesel blending by 2030. 

2) President Ram Nath Kovind Inaugurates ‘One District One Product’ Summit
•The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the ‘One District One Product’ Summit in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The special emphasis was laid on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). After the agricultural sector, most people find employment in this sector. 

•Uttar Pradesh contributes around 44% in the total handicraft exports of the country. Under the ‘One District One Product’ scheme, the state government has set a goal of providing employment to 25 lakh people in five years through the financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 crores. 

3) NITI Aayog Hosts Investors’ Conference In Andaman & Nicobar, And Lakshadweep Islands
•NITI Aayog hosted an Investors’ Conference at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra for the Holistic Development of Islands along with the respective UT Administration. The Conference was inaugurated by Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog. 

•It attracted investment for the sustainable development of eco-tourism projects in Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands. The 11 anchor tourism projects are proposed to be implemented with private sector participation under the suitable risk-sharing model and through open-competitive bidding. 

4) Global Innovation Index, GII- 2018 Launched In India
•The Global Innovation Index 2018 was launched in New Delhi by Ratan P Watal, Principal Adviser, NITI Aayog & Member Secretary of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. The event was organized by theConfederation of Indian Industry (CII) – one of the founding partners of GII along with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). 

•India’s rank on the Global Innovation Index (GII) has improved from 60 in 2017 to 57 in 2018. India has been consistently climbing the GII ranking for the past two years. 

5) Chile's Michelle Bachelet To Be Next UN Human Rights Chief
•The United Nations announced that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has chosen former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet to be the UN’s new human rights chief. Bachelet would be succeeding Jordanian diplomat Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein. 

•Bachelet’s name will now go forward for consideration and approval by the 193-member UN General Assembly.

6) Neeraj Chopra India’s Flag Bearer At Asian Games 2018 Opening Ceremony
•Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be the flag bearer for the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games 2018. The 20-year-old has won a gold medal in World Junior Championships, Asian Championships, South Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in his career so far. 

•The Haryana athlete equalled the national record when he recorded a throw of 82.23m at the 2016 South Asian Games. Chopra set a new national record when he registered a throw of 87.43m at the Diamond League in May 2018.

IBPS PO 2018 Official Notification has been released by IBPS on 9th August. With the release of official notification, IBPS PO Recruitment 2018 has started. The Online Registration for IBPS PO 2018 will start from 14th August and the last date to apply online is 4th September 2018.

IBPS PO 2018 Vacancy

More than 20 lakh aspirants appear for the IBPS Bank PO examination every year. IBPS has already released the official notification, exam dates & vacancies for IBPS PO 2018. IBPS introduced 4102 vacancies for IBPS PO 2018-19 Exam. IBPS PO Vacancy 2018 is likely to be more or less same as that of last year.

IBPS PO Prelims Exam Pattern

The IBPS PO preliminary examination has a total duration of 1 hour and 20 mintues for each sections, which will be conducted in online mode. It consists of 3 sections with a total of 100 questions and maximum score of 100 marks. There is negative marking in IBPS PO pre exam and 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. Candidates must clear the cut-off in all 3 sections to qualify for the IBPS PO Main exam. The section-wise details are given below:

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing minimum cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by IBPS depending upon requirements will be shortlisted for Online Main Examination.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern

The IBPO PO Main exam is also conducted online, it has 5(4+1) sections with a total score of 200+25 marks and total duration of 180+30 minutes. Just like IBPS PO 2017, IBPS will be conducting a descriptive paper in its mains exam for selection of candidates to the post of Probationary officer. The sections must be attempted in the same order and the allotted time as mandated at the time of the exam. A candidate has to clear both preliminary and mains examination to be eligible for the interview process.

1) International Day Of The World's Indigenous Peoples: 9 August
•The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is observed across the world on August 9 with an aim to strengthen international cooperation for solving problems faced by indigenous peoples in areas such as human rights, the environment, education, health and social development. 

•The theme of 2018 International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples was ‘Indigenous peoples’ migration and movement’. 

2) Project 'SWAYAM' Launched By HRD Ministry
•The Ministry of HRD has embarked on a major and new initiative Project called 'Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds' (SWAYAM), which will provide one integrated platform and portal for online courses. This covers all higher education subjects and skill sector courses. 

•The objective is to ensure that every student in the country has access to the best quality higher education at the affordable cost.

3) Harivansh Narayan Singh Elected Deputy Chairperson Of Rajya Sabha
•NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh was elected the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman with 125 votes. The Opposition candidate BK Hariprasad managed to get 105 votes. 

•Mr Singh is an MP from the Janata Dal (United) and a Parliamentarian from Bihar and a former journalist. 

4) Khangchendzonga Becomes 11th Biosphere Reserve To Be Included In WNBR
•The Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve (in Sikkim) has become the 11th Biosphere Reserve from Indiathat has been included in the UNESCO designated World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR). The decision to include Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve in WNBR was taken at the 30th Session of International Coordinating Council (ICC) of Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme of UNESCO held at Palembang, Indonesia. 

•India has 18 Biosphere Reserves and with the inclusion of Khangchendzonga, the number of internationally designated WNBR has become 11, with 7 Biosphere Reserves being domestic Biosphere Reserves.

5) Commerce & Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu Launches Mobile App 'Niryat Mitra'
•Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Aviation Suresh Prabhu launched 'Niryat Mitra' – mobile App in New Delhi. The app developed by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) is available both on Android and on IOS platforms. 

•It provides wide range of information required to undertake international trade right from the policy provisions for export and import, applicable GST rate, available export incentives, tariff, preferential tariff, market access requirements – SPS and TBT measures. The most interesting part is that all the information is available at tariff line.

6) Indian-American Avi Goel Wins International Geography Bee World Championship
•Indian-American high school student Avi Goel has won the world championship at the International Geography Bee’s junior varsity division which was held in Berlin, Germany. 14-year old Avi is a tenth grader at Silver Creek High School in Evergreen, San Jose, California. 

•He won a gold medal in seven out of the 10 medal events, and a silver medal in two of the events, topping the overall medals table. He also bagged the top spot in all the three events counting towards the world championship title: the International Geography Exam, the International Geography Showdown, and the International Geography Bee. 

7) MoU Signed Between TRIFED And National Medicinal Plant Board
•Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd. (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs & National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH have signed an MoU together.

•The MoU aims to promote Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) forest produced for livelihood development of tribal people by promoting primary level value addition to MAPs produce from forest area at the grassroots level.

8) Ivan Duque Sworn In As Colombia’s Next President
•Ivan Duque was sworn in as the newly elected President of Colombia. He pledged to unite the country and improve economic growth. 

•He pledged changes to tackle corruption and invigorate the economy and vowed to change the peace deal with the FARC rebel group.
