1) Japan gifts Manipur a peace museum
•Japan gifts Manipur a “Peace Museum” which is built on the memories of one of the fiercest battles of the Second World War.

•The inauguration of the Imphal Peace Museum at Red Hill, about 20 km southwest of Manipur’s capital Imphal, marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Imphal.

2) Mata Vaishno Devi shrine to get disaster response force by 2020
•The Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, a religious pilgrimage, will get a dedicated in-house disaster response force by September, 2020.

•Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is going to train 180 employees to prepare a dedicated disaster response force for the shrine. It will also set up an Emergency Operation Centre as part of its disaster preparedness.

3) Shefali Juneja appointed India’s representative to ICAO
•Senior bureaucrat Shefali Juneja is appointed as India’s representative in the council of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), a United Nations body. She will replace the senior IAS officer Alok Shekhar.

•Presently, Shefali Juneja is serving as the Joint Secretary in Ministry of Civil Aviation.

4) World Bank approves $147 Million Loan to the Government of Jharkhand
•The Government of India, the Government of Jharkhand and the World Bank signed a $147 Million Loan Agreement.

•Jharkhand will invest the amount to provide urban services such as water supply, sewerage, drainage and urban road. 



5) NTPC, PGCIL ink MoU to enter national electricity distribution business
•National Thermal Power Corporation Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited have signed an agreement to set up National Electricity Distribution Company Ltd.

•NEDCL will be a joint venture company on 50:50 equity basis. The main aim of the initiative is to enter the electricity distribution business on a pan India basis.

6) RBI advises commercial banks to adopt Education Loan Scheme
•The Reserve Bank of India has advised all Scheduled Commercial Banks to adopt Education Loan Scheme, formulated by Indian Banks Association.

7) Award for Malayalam film at 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival
•Veyil Marangal (Trees Under the Sun) have become the first Indian film to won ‘Outstanding Artistic Achievement’ award at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

•The film is directed by Bijukumar Damodaran. This was the 22nd edition of the Shanghai International Film Festival.

8) Meenakshi Lekhi’s first novel: The New Delhi Conspiracy
•“The New Delhi Conspiracy” is Meenakshi Lekhi’s first novel to be published soon. She has co-written it with Krishna Kumar. The novel will be published by Harper Collins.

9) RBI launches Complaint Management System
•The Complaint Management System (CMS) is a software application launched by Reserve Bank of India on its website. It will be used for lodging complaints against banks and NBFCs with a view to improve customer experience in timely redressal of grievances.

•Customers can lodge complaints against any regulated entity on the platform. These complaints will be directed to the appropriate office of the Ombudsman/Regional Office of the RBI.

•The RBI is also planning to introduce a dedicated Interactive Voice Response (IVR)system to track the status of complaints.

10) Anupam Kher pens his autobiography: “Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly”
•Bollywood actor Anupam Kher is coming out with his autobiography, “Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly”.

•Anupam Kher is one of the most prolific actors in the Indian film industry who has acted in over 530 films in several languages, both in India and the West.

11) Ashleigh Barty becomes world No.1 women tennis player
•Ashleigh Barty becomes world No.1 women tennis player after winning the Birmingham Classic by defeating Julia Goerges by 6-3, 7-5. She is an Australian Professional tennis player.

12) IOC opens new headquarters in Switzerland
•The International Olympic Committee has formally opened new headquarters in Switzerland exactly 125 years after the Olympic Games were revived.

📰 Govt. bringing back artefacts from abroad

•The government is in the process of bringing back 40 artefacts, including 27 from Tamil Nadu, that had been taken to different countries illegally, the Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.

•Answering a question by M.K. Raghavan, Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said the government was working on bringing back 40 artefacts from Switzerland, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Singapore and the United States.

📰 Passports with advanced security features soon

Chips will be installed in the booklets, says Jaishankar

•The government is on its way to integrate all the diplomatic missions and posts into the Passport Seva Project shortly. On the occasion of the Passport Seva Divas on Monday, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said India would soon deliver passport booklets with advanced security features.

•“It is noteworthy that the major passport issuing 25 missions and posts have been integrated [into the Passport Seva Project] during this period. We are taking steps to complete integrating all the missions and posts abroad in a time-bound manner which would enable us to deliver passport and passport-related services to our diaspora,” said Mr. Jaishankar. The Minister acknowledged the contribution of his predecessor Sushma Swaraj in bringing new dynamism in the process of passport delivery. He said India at present had 505 Passport Seva Kendras of which 412 were Post Office Passport Seva Kendras.

•He pointed out that India was on its way to deliver passport booklets with advance security features being produced at the India Security Press, Nashik. They would have chips installed for security. “We propose to pursue the manufacture of e-passports on priority so that a new passport booklet with advanced security features can be rolled out.”

•Mr. Jaishankar thanked the Department of Posts for ensuring availability of Passport Seva Kendras. The Passport Seva Project had been issuing one crore passports a every year, according to the government. The Minister acknowledged the role of the police departments in ensuring smooth functioning of the mechanism.

1) UAE launches UN-developed anti money laundering platform ‘goAML’
•The UAE has become the first country in the Gulf to launch ‘goAML’, a new anti money laundering reporting platform developed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to curb organised crimes.

•All financial entities and Designated Non Financial Businesses or Professions have to register on ‘goAML’. The platform will help the Financial Intelligence Unit of UAE to prevent money laundering, financing of terrorism and other illicit financial activities.

2) Mohamed Ould Ghazouani elected as the president of Mauritania
•Mohamed Ould Ghazouani won the presidential election of Mauritania with 52% votes. His nearest rival, anti-slavery campaigner Biram Dah Abeid, came second with 18.58%.

•The election was the first in Mauritania, since independence from France in 1960.

3) Saudi Arabia becomes 1st Arab country to be granted full FATF membership



•Saudi Arabia has become the 1st Arab country to be granted full membership of the Financial Action Task Force. It becomes the 39th member of FATF during the group’s Annual General Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

•FATF is responsible for issuing international standards, policies and best practices to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation.

4) NSIC signs MoU with CSC e-governance services India
•National Small Industries Corporation has signed an MoU with Common Service Centres e-Governance Services India. 

•The aim is to enhance new offerings for the MSME sector by synergizing each other’s competence. MoU will also enable CSCs to utilize plethora of NSIC offerings through the NSIC portal.

5) Bronze medal for India at Asian Artistic Gymnastic Championship
•India’s gymnast Pranati Nayak has won a bronze medal in the vault event at the Senior Asian Artistic Championships. The championship was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

•China’s Yu Linmin and Japan’s Ayaka Sakaguchi won the gold and silver medal at the event.

6) A first ever international 15s win for Indian women’s rugby team
•The Indian women’s rugby team have claimed a historic first ever international Rugby 15s victory. They defeated Singapore with a score of 21-19.

•The Indian team finished third in the Asia Women’s Division 1 Rugby XVs Championship held in Manila. China won the tournament after defeating the hosts Philippines.

•The tournament was one of the qualifying rounds for the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup to be held in New Zealand.

1) International Olympic Day: 23rd June
•23rd June is the International Olympic Day. The day is celebrated to promote participation in different sports throughout the world without any discrimination of the gender, age and athletic ability.

2) Govt develops National Strategic Plan to end TB by 2025
•The government has developed a National Strategic Plan with the goal of ending Tuberculosis (TB) by 2025.

•Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey stated that India accounts for 27.4 lakh estimated new TB cases annually, which is the highest in terms of absolute numbers.

3) Hardeep Puri inaugurates Central ATFM Complex
•Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the Air Traffic Flow Management- Central Command Centre in New Delhi.

•The C-ATFM system is primarily meant to address the balancing of capacity against the demand to achieve optimum utilization of the major resources, including airport, airspace, and aircraft at every Indian airport where there is a capacity constraint.

4) United Nations Public Service Day: 23 June
•United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated around the world on 23rd June. The day celebrates the value and virtue of public service to the community; highlights the contribution of public service in the development process; recognizes the work of public servants, and encourages young people to pursue careers in the public sector.

5) International Widow’s Day: 23 June
•The United Nations observes 23 June as International Widows Day. The day is celebrated to draw attention to the voices and experiences of widows and to galvanize the unique support that they need.
