•The World Wildlife Day 2020 will be celebrated with the theme:
Sustaining all life on Earth
•The theme of World Wildlife Day 2020 aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 1, 12, 14 and 15 of the United Nations. It also aligns with the wide-ranging commitments on reducing poverty, ensuring sustainable use of resources, and on conserving life both on land and below water to stop biodiversity loss.
3) “Ekam Fest” begins to promote Craftsmanship of Divyang Artisans
•EKAM Fest organised by NHFDC is an initiative to promote entrepreneurship along with knowledge among Divyangjan community. It also aims to generate awareness among society about potentialities of PwDs as well as providing them major marketing opportunities. The fest will feature the participation of the Divyang Entrepreneur and Artisans from all over the country. The fest will also feature the products from Jammu & Kashmir and North East, ranging from handloom, handicraft, Embroidery work and dry fruits.
4) Multilingual version of “Incredible India” website launched
•The multilingual website also features the 360 degree-experience-based walk-throughs and stories and experiences of the tourists in various aspects such as Food & Cuisine, Heritage, Nature and Wildlife, Luxury, Spiritual, Adventure, Art, Shopping and many more.
•The “Incredible India” website was earlier hosted in only two languages i.e. English & Hindi.
5) Amit Shah inaugurates NSG Regional Hub campus at Kolkata
•NSG Regional Hub campus is worth over Rs.162 crores. It has become a model regional hub of the NSG, which will help in honing the professional acumen of the NSG commandos. It will contribute significantly to the capacity building of the first responders, the Police forces of the States. The campus will hold the responsibility of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and the entire North-Eastern region.
6) Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela-2020 held in New Delhi
•The Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela featured the demonstration of Rabi crops, protected cultivation of flowers and vegetables, display and sale of farm equipments developed by ICAR-IARI and other Institutes and private companies. It also featured the sale of seeds and plants of improved varieties along with free testing of soil and water samples. The participating farmers as well as the visitors of the mela will be facilitated with the free health check-up during the occasion.
7) Govt launches “Humsafar” mobile app for doorstep diesel delivery
•The app will be used for the fuel delivery services to housing societies, hotels, hospitals, malls, construction sites, industries, banquets and other bulk buyers of diesel in various NCR cities, including Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad, Hapur, Kundli, Manesar, and Bahadurgarh. Humsafar has 12 bowser tankers in varying capacity from 4 kilolitres to 6 kilolitres and an experienced team of 35 people.
8) Arunachal Pradesh assembly implements e-Vidhan project
•The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is the unicameral state legislature of Arunachal Pradesh state in north-eastern India. The Legislative Assembly comprises 60 Members of Legislative Assembly directly elected from single-seat constituencies.
9) Union declares National Chambal Sanctuary as eco-sensitive zone
•Being declared as Eco-Sensitive Zone, construction of resorts, hotels or other residential and industrial activities are prohibited. The Sanctuary begins in the Vindhyan Ranges, extends along the Chambal river and ends in Yamuna river. It is spread across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
What is Eco-Sensitive Zone?
•The Eco-Sensitive Zones are protected areas that act as “shock absorbers”. They also act as transition zones. They are governed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change. Governing is an important factor as land is a state subject. There are no acts that regulate the zones.
10) China takes presidency of UN Security Council for March 2020
•The United Nations Security Council was established by the UN Charter. The council was established with the primary responsibility of maintaining international peace and security. The United Nations Security Council constitutes of 15 members out of which five are permanent while 10 are non-permanent members which are elected for two-year terms. The presidency of the council rotates every month among its 15 members.
11) India sign 40 million USD defence deal with Armenia
•Under the deal, India will supply 4 SWATHI weapon locating radars. The weapon is to be developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). Armenians had conducted trials of systems offered by Russia and Poland but they approved the Indian system, which was developed by DRDO. India began the supply of the equipment to Armenia.
12) 19th World Productivity Congress 2020 to be held in Bengaluru
•The theme of 19th World Productivity Congress is “Industry 4.0: Innovation and Productivity”. The theme represents the Fourth Industrial Revolution that amalgamates the capabilities of humans and machines. India is hosting the conference after a gap of 45 years. Before this, the country hosted the WPC in the year 1974.
13) 1st Khelo India University Games concludes in Bhubaneswar
•A total of 113 universities took part in the games. India’s fastest woman Dutee Chand representing Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology clinched the gold medal with a timing of 23.66 seconds in the 200m final.
