1) Madhya Pradesh Government Increases Reservation Quota of OBCs to 27%
•The Madhya Pradesh government issued an ordinance increasing reservation quota for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) to 27% from the current 14%. The announcement was made by the state’s Law and Legal Affairs Minister PC Sharma. The ordinance was issued and notified after it received the assent from the state’s Governor Anandiben Patel.

2) 3-member Mediation Panel Created By Supreme Court To Settle Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid Case
•The Supreme Court ordered a court-monitored mediation in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case to arrive at a “permanent solution” to the politically and religiously sensitive issue.

•The five-judge constitution bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi appointed a panel of 3 mediators in the title suit with Retired Justice Kalifullah chairing the court-appointed and monitored mediation process. The other two members are spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu. 

•Here is the Short Information on the 3 Members of the Panel:

1. Retired Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla: Justice Kalifulla started his law practice in Chennai. He was appointed Madras High Court judge in 2000.

2. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Founder of Art of Living foundation, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was born in Papanasam, Tamil Nadu and has made a lot of controversial statements about the Ayodhya case in the past.

3. Sr. Advocate Sriram Panchu- Senior Advocate and an expert mediator, Sriram Panchu has been mediating cases since 1990s. He founded The Mediation Chambers, India’s first such centre in 2005 and is also on the board of the International Mediation Institute (IMI) as a director.

3) 14th CII-EXIM Bank Conclave On India-Africa Project Partnerships To Be Held In New Delhi
•Ministry of Commerce & Industry will be organizing the 14th CII-EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Project Partnerships, in association with Confederation of Indian Industry and EXIM Bank of India in New Delhi.

•The event will mark the deepening of India-Africa economic and business ties and pave the way for a whole range of cross-border project partnerships. The conclave brings senior Ministers, policymakers, officials, business leaders, bankers, technologists, start-up entrepreneurs and other professionals from India and Africa on a common platform in a spirit of partnership.

4) India Bags 1st Prize At International ‘Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2019’ In Berlin
•The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has won the First Prize in the category of TV Cinema Spot at the prestigious international Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2019. The awards were received by Yogendra Tripathi, Secretary, Tourism at ITB, Berlin.

•Following promotional films / television commercials produced by the Ministry as part of its Incredible India 2.0 Campaign received the awards:

1.Yogi of the Racetrack,
2.The Reincarnation of Mr. and Mrs. Jones,
3.Sanctuary in Paris,
4.Maharani of Manhattan and,
5.Masala Master Chef.

5) Acko Awarded Coveted Golden Peacock Award 2019 For Innovative Product
•ACKO General Insurance a new-age digital insurance company was awarded the coveted Golden Peacock Innovative Product Award – 2019, for their contextual micro insurance product –“Ola Ride Insurance”. The award was presented to Mr. Biresh Giri, Appointed Actuary & CRO, Acko. The award ceremony was held in Dubai.

•Established by the Institute of Directors, India in 1991, The Golden Peacock Awards for Corporate Leadership and Excellence are now regarded as a benchmark of business excellence, both locally and globally.

6) In a 1st, SBI Links Interest On Most Savings Account Deposits To RBI Repo Rate
•State Bank of India has become the first domestic bank to link the interest rate it offers on savings account deposits to an external benchmark — the Reserve Bank of India’s repo rate. By doing so, the bank will effectively link all loan rates to an external benchmark either directly or indirectly, thereby attempting to speed up the transmission of any changes in the benchmark monetary policy rate to depositors and borrowers.

•SBI announced the following changes:

1.Savings accounts with deposits above Rs 1 lakh would be priced at 2.75% below the prevailing repo rate of 6.25%. The effective rate works out to be 3.5%, which is unchanged from the prevailing rate on savings accounts.

2.Cash credit accounts and overdraft facilities over Rs 1 lakh would be priced at 2.25% over the repo rate. At the prevailing repo rate of 6.25%, this would mean a floor price of 8.5%.

3.For all other floating rate products, including retail and corporate loans, the impact of SBI’s decision to link savings account deposit rates to the repo rate will be felt indirectly. These loans will continue to be linked to the 1-year MCLR (marginal cost lending rate). 

4.For savings account holders with balances up to Rs 1 lakh and borrowers with cash credit and overdraft limits up to Rs 1 lakh, interest rates will remain fixed.

1) Government Renames DIPP as Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade
•The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has been renamed as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade with a mandate to deal with matters related to start-ups, facilitating ease of doing business among others.

•The newly-named department under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will look into matters related to promotion of internal trade, including retail trade, welfare of traders and their employees, facilitating ease of doing business and start-ups. The order has been approved by President Ram Nath Kovind.

2) 2019 Announced As The International Year Of The Periodic Table
•The United Nations announced 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of the Chemical Elements to highlight its first publication in 1869. The periodic table was first designed by the Russian scientist Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev.

•The announcement by the United Nations will help to raise the profile of how chemistry can provide solutions to global challenges in agriculture, education, energy and health. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the first publication of the periodic table by Mendeleev.

3) Punjab Government Approves ‘Smart Village Campaign’ Worth Of Rs 385 Crores
•The Punjab government approved a rural development scheme worth Rs 384.40 crore to supplement the ongoing works to build village infrastructure and provide essential amenities. Named ‘Smart Village Campaign’, the scheme would be financed with funds from the 14th Financial Commission and MGNREGA works.

•The scheme was approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. The SVC is aimed at improving the condition of rural areas by supplementing the ongoing government schemes for building infrastructure and providing essential amenities.

4) Maharashtra Launched Special Scheme To Curb Infant Deaths
•The Maharashtra government launched a special scheme to curb infant deaths. Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde distributed baby-care kits to the children born in primary health centers and government hospitals.

•The scheme is applicable only for the first child and will benefit around four lakh women across the state, Women. The cost of the kit is around Rs 2,000.

5) India’s Unemployment Rate Hit 4 Decade High Of 6.1% In 2017-18: NSSO
•As per the National Sample Survey Office’s (NSSO’s) periodic labor force survey (PLFS) India’s unemployment rate hit a 45 year high of 6.1% in 2017-18. It is the first comprehensive survey on employment conducted by a government agency after demonetization.

•Unemployment is higher in urban areas which is 7.8% as compared to 5.3% in rural areas of the country. The unemployment rate is at its highest level as in 1972-73. The rate of jobless rural males rose to 17.4% from 5% and among rural jobless females, the rate became 13.6% from 4.8%.

6) Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Launches Kisan Suvidha Loan
•‘Kisan Suvidha loan’ for small and marginal farmers has been launched by Ujjivan Small Finance Bank. The scheme will attempt to reach the bottom of the pyramid with products and services.

•Kisan Suvidha loan can be used by farmers for both agriculture and allied activities. The product is specially designed to cater to the needs of customers for various allied and agricultural activities. It provides loans to individuals with an amount ranging from Rs. 60000 to Rs. 2 Lakh to fulfill the customized needs of the mass market segment.

1) International Universal Health Coverage Day: 12 December
•International Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC Day) is celebrated globally on 12 December. In 2017 the United Nations proclaimed 12 December as International Universal Health Coverage Day by resolution 72/138.

•The theme for the 2018 UHC Day is- “Unite for Universal Health Coverage: Now is the Time for Collective Action”. The Day aims to raise awareness of the need for strong and resilient health systems and universal health coverage with multi-stakeholder partners.

2) PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates 4th Partners’ Forum in New Delhi
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fourth Partners’ Forum in New Delhi. The objective of the conference is to improve knowledge, alignment and accountability to accelerate action on women’s, children’s and adolescents health.

•Ministry of Health in association with the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, PMNCH is hosting the two-day international conference. This is the second time India is hosting the Partners’ Forum. The programme has been framed around the objectives of the Global Strategy of Survive – Thrive – Transform.

3) Kamal Nath To Be New CM of Madhya Pradesh
•Congress party has chosen MP statue unit president Kamal Nath as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. He will replace outgoing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

•A one-line resolution has been passed at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Bhopal to choose the Madhya Pradesh chief minister. Congress party high command will now take the final decision.

4) Portal ENSURE Launched by Agriculture Ministry
•Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Radha Mohan Singh launched a portal ‘ENSURE’- National Livestock Mission-EDEG developed by NABARD and operated under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries.

•The NABARD has developed an online portal “ENSURE” (ensure.nabard.org) so that the information related to beneficiary and processing of the application can be made readily available.

5) Home Ministry Launches Twitter Account ‘@CyberDost’
•Home Ministry has launched a Twitter account named ‘@CyberDost’ to spread awareness about cybercrimes and normal precautions to be taken. The Twitter handles is aimed at enhancing people’s basic knowledge about cybercrimes and precautions to be taken for prevention.

6) Israel Becomes Permanent Member of Financial Action Task Force
•Israel became a full member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international body set up to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and other threats to the international financial system.

•The Jewish state has now taken its place alongside 37 other members including most of the G20, the world’s 20 leading industrialized and emerging economies just 16 years after being blacklisted by the organization.




7) EU Ambassador Opens India’s 1st CoE at MAHE
•India’s first Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence established by the European Unionwas inaugurated at the Department of European Studies (DES) at Manipal Academy of Higher Education in New Delhi by Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to India and Bhutan, Tomasz Kozlowski.

•The award comes with a grant of €1,00,000 to pursue India-EU interdisciplinary studies in culture, literature, education and society. This is the fifth time that MAHE has been awarded grants under the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet initiative.

8) RBI Slaps Rs 1 crore Fine on Indian Bank For Violating Cybersecurity norms
•The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on Indian Bank for violating cybersecurity norms. The contravention is with regard to RBI’s directions on Frauds – Classification and Reporting by Commercial Banks.

9) Mary Kom Honoured With ‘Meethoileima’ Title
•Manipur Government honored AIBA World Women Boxing Gold medalist MC Mary Kom with the title “Meethoileima” (par excellent queen) at a function in Imphal, Manipur.

•On the occasion, State Chief Minister N. Biren Singh handed over a cheque of ten lakh rupees to her. The Chief Minister also declared that the Imphal West DC Road towards Game Village will be named as MC Mary Kom Road.

10) Naomi Osaka’s Coach Sascha Bajin Becomes 1st Ever WTA Coach Of The Year
•Sascha Bajin, coach of the world number five Naomi Osaka, has become the first-ever recipient of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Coach of the Year Award.

•WTA Coach of the Year Award is given to the coach with not only success on-court, but also who serves as an ambassador of the sport and brings coaching to the forefront of the game.

1)  Government says Adopt a Heritage’ scheme is for development, maintenance and operation of Tourism amenities in monuments
•The government has clarified that the Adopt a Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan, is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India and State governments.

•In response to certain reports appearing in the media regarding the scheme, the Tourism Ministry said, it aims at involving public sector companies, private sector companies and corporate citizens and individuals to take up the responsibility for making the heritage and tourism more sustainable through development. 

•The Ministry said the Memorandum of Understanding signed for Red Fort is only for the development, operations and maintenance of tourism amenities in and around it. It envisages limited access’ of non-core areas and no handing over of the monument is involved. The Ministry also clarified that the Adopt a Heritage’ is essentially a non-revenue generating project. 

2)  PM Modi China Visit: Important Highlights
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New Delhi after a two-day informal summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Wuhan. The Prime Minister was received at the airport by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi wrapped up his two-day visit to China with both the countries underlining the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity in all areas of their border region in the larger interest of the overall development of bilateral relations.

•On day two both leaders took a long walk by Wuhan’s iconic East Lake. The two leaders also agreed to issue “strategic guidance” to their militaries to strengthen communications and to build trust and understanding. After the walk the talk followed a Naav (Boat) pe charcha. The two leaders took a boat ride on a traditional Chinese wooden boat sporting a pagoda. Wuhan is a city of freshwater lakes along the banks of the Yangtze River.

3)  LCA Tejas Successfully Fired Air-To-Air BVR Missile
•Indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas has successfully fired an air-to-air beyond visual range (BVR) missile. With this, Tejas has demonstrated its overall capability as an effective combat jet and inched closer to receive final operational clearance.

•The test firing of the missile from a Tejas jet was carried off the Goa coast and it met all operational requirements. The successful launch of the BVR missile will expedite issuance of the Final Operational Clearance to the aircraft developed by state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

4)  Sikkim Chief Minister Becomes India's Longest-Serving CM
•Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling became the longest-serving Chief Minister in India, surpassing the record of Jyoti Basu, who served as West Bengal CM from 1977 to 2000.

•Chamling became the Chief Minister in December 1994 and belongs to the Sikkim Democratic Front.

5)  Prajnesh wins maiden singles title on Challenger circuit
•Prajnesh Gunneswaran has clinched his first ever singles tennis title on the ATP Challenger circuit. 

•In the final of the Kunming Open at Anning, China, today, he defeated Egypt's Mohammed Safwat in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

•The 28-year-old from Chennai pocketed 21,600 US Dollars and earned 125 points which are likely to help him jump more than 80 places when the new ranking chart will be issued tomorrow. 

•At present, the southpaw is ranked 260.
